Thomas Hunter established the company of T.M. Hunter at Wick in Caithness in 1901, moving to Brora in Sutherland some ten years later. The product became known world-wide as “Hunter’s Tweed”. Hunter’s tweed mill was the earliest in Scotland.
Hunter designed and specially made tweed for Scottish and English country estates in differing colours, shades and patterns to match the varying colours on each estate. Its Carroll tweed, often described as the King of Tweeds, is more comprehensively constructed than any other Scottish Tweed and is renowned for its lasting strong hues, the longevity of its colours and its durability – a recent Martindale rub test for Bentley Motors withstood 65,000 rubs!
When production in Brora ceased Geoffrey Minter a local estate owner saved Hunters by acquiring the existing tweed stock and brand name. From these tweeds we are now producing items which you can buy exclusively from this website.
